On 16 June 1963, the Soviet Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to orbit the Earth. Fifty years on, and there have been only 57 female astronauts for over 470 men!

On Monday 6 August the Mars rover Curiosity should land on the red planet. From today Enjoy Space and Cité de l’Espace are offering you the chance to follow this event on Twitter, and then by video, direct from the NASA JPL in California!
Ariane 5 live on 15 May
The European launcher is to carry out its 206th mission on Tuesday 15 May when it is to place two telecommunications satellites (JCSAT-1 and Vinasat-2) in orbit. The CNES, the French Space Agency, will be streaming live video on this page so that you can follow the launch on Tuesday as of 23:57 (Paris’ time).
Also worthy of note are the links to documents (notably the flight kit) and videos entitled “Le fil d’Ariane” which explain the principles and issues of such a mission.
