Grains of sand
A close-up of grains of sand? No. This is an area of the sky 60 times bigger than the full Moon, observed through Europe's infrared space telescope, Herschel. On this photo, each coloured dot represents a galaxy some 10 to 12 billion light years away!

  • Soyuz in Guiana
