Whirlwinds at the Canaries
This photograph taken by the European Envisat satellite shows swirling cloud masses to the south of the Canary Island archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. Such an atmospheric phenomenon is called the Karman vortex after Theodore Von Karman, an American physician of Hungarian origin who was the first director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).

  • Soyuz in Guiana
