Spaceship Earth

As explained in this article, the International Space Station’s Expedition 32 has started, but not all the crew are aboard as yet. With the return of André Kuipers, Oleg Kononenko and Donald Pettit, Gennady Padalka (Commander), Sergei Revin and Joe Acaba are now waiting for Sunita Williams, Hakihiko Hoshide and Yuri Malenchenko to join them on 15 July 2012.
The 6 Expedition 32 crewmembers pay tribute to our planet with their mission poster (see below) by looking down on it with benevolence and admiration. This is obviously a way of highlighting its fragility by means of the “Spaceship Earth” concept. Just like the astronauts who have to take care of their spaceship or station in order to survive, Humankind has to take care of its own spaceship, the Earth.
