ATHLETE’s dance

ATHLETE (All-Terrain Hex-Limbed Extra-Terrestrial Explorer) is an extremely serious project run by NASA’s JPL, Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The project consists of designing a robotic mobile platform capable of moving and using its hinged legs to get over obstacles in order to transport different types of modules (some habitable) on the Moon, Mars or other destinations.
Nevertheless, the engineers working on this project have a good sense of humour and have made this short film which shows their prototype dancing. All the movements are real, but the editing has greatly accelerated the rhythm.
